Love this sketch. Actually, love all of your sketches. What inspired it? I ask because I'm thinking one of my characters in my WIP collects eerie Victorian puppets.
Hi Kate! Well - as I am structuring the plow for my graphic novel I am exploring twists that relate to an alleghorical "America" - So, in the plot line, the Marionette Master's job is to keep the circus alive by creating counterfiet "circus stars" to replace those who die. He creates wooden puppet renditions of great acrobats that keep the circus alive. And you can see where that leads - a counterfiet circus, or an amazing art form.
I am working this year on a body of work that personifies America as acrobats, jugglers, Ringmasters, and balancing acts. Right now, I am working on studies for the characters in these scenes. The sketchbooks are taking shape and I am thinking of taking this to the level of a graphic novel. But right now, I just want to paint. And I am working to find my voice. I would love it if you would follow my progress here. Feel free to comment!
